Type A evacuation alarm systems

A type A evacuation alarm system warns occupants through tones and spoken messages over loudspeakers. EvacSafe supports building owners, facility managers and installers with independent advice, design and technical assessment. We start with your question, building use and documented design requirements.

Discuss your type A system

Advice for new and existing systems

Whether you are reviewing a proposal, planning alterations or trying to understand maintenance findings, we assess the available documents and their relationship to the building and system functions. You receive findings, information gaps and recommended next steps. For an existing installation, we also establish the applicable standard edition and original design criteria.

System design and NEN 2575-2

Voice alarm design involves occupied spaces, alarm zones, controls, cause-and-effect functions and the fire detection interface. NEN 2575-2 addresses type A systems together with NEN 2575-1. We agree which design documents, drawings, calculations and functional matrices are required for your assignment.

Sound levels and speech intelligibility

A loud message is not necessarily understandable. Sound level measurements examine loudness; STIPA measurements examine speech transmission. Before testing, we agree on locations, signal routes, background noise and assessment criteria. The measurement task follows from the actual problem and applicable project requirements.

Office alterations and phone booths

New partitions or phone booths may affect alarm audibility. Additional loudspeakers may also affect loading, circuits and documentation. EvacSafe helps assess the implications for the whole system and define the required measurements or design changes.

Assessment and inspection preparation

We bring together reports, design criteria and available evidence of remedial work to prepare a focused action list. Advice, measurements and inspection preparation are not a formal inspection and do not constitute an inspection certificate. The formal decision remains with the authorised inspection body.

Choosing type A or type B

The choice depends on the applicable requirements and evacuation strategy. Floor area or a preference for spoken messages alone does not provide sufficient justification. Type A uses spoken messages; type B uses tone sounders. We help clarify your design requirements.

Deliverables and costs

Depending on the agreed scope, you receive a written assessment, design documentation, document review or measurement report. The price depends on the building, available information, site visits and required deliverables. Send your question, design requirements, plans and relevant reports so we can prepare a proposal.
